Chris Dercon


Chris Dercon is an art historian, curator and museum director. The current president of the Réunion des Musées Nationaux-Grand Palais, he has been the director of Volksbuhne Theater, Tate Modern, Haus der Kunst, and Boijmans Van Beuningen. Under the directorship of Chris Dercon, the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen organized in 1997 the exhibition (9/4/1615) with Maison Martin Margiela, and the Walter van Beirendonck exhibition in 1998. As the director of the Haus der Kunst, he worked with Patti Smith featuring Ann Demeulemeester in 2003, and in 2009 collaborated with the Antwerp Fashion Museum on the “20’ An Exhibition” for the twentieth anniversary exhibition of Maison Martin Margiela, in 2011 he organised the exhibition Future Beauty- Japanese Fashion. Most recently, Chris Dercon initiated the upcoming exhibition of Martin Margiela at Lafayette Anticipations in Paris, and will publish the essay “La Mode n’est pas de l’art. Sauf parfois?” in the forthcoming catalogue.
