Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Karen Binns is a world-renowned stylist, creative director and consultant. Having worked with the likes of Naomi Campbell, WizKid, Estelle, Tori Amos and Neneh Cherry, to name a few, over the course of her more than 30-year career, she has left an indelible mark on the fashion and music industries that will last long after she packs it up.
Recognised for her unwavering authenticity and no-bull-shit attitude, the original NYC B-girl, Eighties club kid and former muse of Jean-Michel Basquiat shows no signs of slowing. Most recently, Binns has been styling Nigerian singer-songwriter and actress Tiwa Savage. She also heads up her own pop art journal, What?, which launched in 2009. Before that, Binns most notable achievements included working on Andre Walker's Paris catwalk shows, consulting for designers like Ashish, Feben, Maharishi, Bianca Saunders and Kanye West, as well as creating the first-ever moving warehouse party, Soulboys.
Over the years, Binns has contributed to a number of publications including 10 Magazine, Dazed, Beyond The Noise, Rolling Stone, And Fashion Director for Untold and True from the 1990s-2000s . She also co-leads the British Fashion Council’s Mentoring & Talent ID and Race Sub-Committees under the organisation’s Diversity & Inclusion initiative, and is a BFC NewGen judge.
